Santa Cruz Syndicate

Now celebrating their fifteenth Season, the Santa Cruz Syndicate is becoming known as one of the most successful downhill race teams in history.

A professional mountain bike racing team sponsored by Santa Cruz Bikes, they compete in the World Cup and World Championships, as well as national level events in the downhill category. Since their formation in 2006, the team has gone from strength to strength, and is ready for action and raring to go again this season.

WD-40 is proud to be joining the Syndicate in the pits again this year. We will be supplying the team with all the bike-specific lubricants, degreasers, and cleaning products they need to keep their V10s shipshape and ready for action.

“Working with the Syndicate is a major part of our efforts to prove the efficacy and reliability of our products. The riders and mechanics help us spread the importance of bike maintenance to cyclists of all levels. Everyone on the team including athletes, mechanics, and support crew alike are genuine in what they do – as a brand we find this most important.”

Greg Minnaar

Greg first started racing BMX at 4 years of age. He soon moved over to motocross and raced for 11 years before his parents bought a bicycle shop. This is when his path to DH stardom began. He was initially inspired by the rivalry between Nico Vouilloz and Steve Peat. Greg worked his way up to the Santa Cruz Syndicate team to eventually ride alongside one of those childhood heroes.

Greg has won back-to-back World Championships on the Syndicate. He is widely recognised as one of the smoothest and most consistent DH racers on the circuit.

Luca Shaw

Arguably one of the most exciting new talents on the World Cup scene. American Luca Shaw is poised to upset the apple cart in a big way. Entering his third year on the Syndicate and his fifth year on the V10, Luca will be aiming for that top step of the podium in 2019.  Hailing from North Carolina and introduced to two-wheeled sports by his father and older brother, Luca’s path to elite downhill competition started age four, racing bar-to-bar in BMX. Countless trips to national races would follow, building the foundations of what was to come.

After entering his first mountain bike race at 13, it wasn’t long before Luca discovered the world of downhill racing. The rest is history. After an amazing 2018 World Cup season, we all know that Luca has what it takes to not only stand on the podium but to win at the highest level.

Loris Vergier

From Nico Vouilloz to Fabien Barel and more recently, Loïc Bruni, the South of France has consistently delivered some of the most dynamic downhill racers to ever grace the podium. For Loris Vergier, this mantle has not only been met but consistently upheld on the racetrack. His journey into the world of bicycles and dirt would come from his father, also a passionate mountain biker. From the local BMX track to the most challenging and demanding downhill racetracks in the world, Loris’ rise through the ranks has been nothing short of amazing.

Winning the overall World Cup series, twice, and a world championships title as a junior, Loris made his intentions known in 2018 taking his first elite World Cup win. Coming into his third year with the Syndicate, 2019 promises to be an exciting year for this enigmatic young Frenchman.
