HydroGarden Weston Beach Race 2017

The HydroGarden Weston Beach Race 2017, with over 70,000 people visiting the Weston-Super-Mare event over the course of the weekend. There was some outstanding racing amongst the 900 riders, who took to the beach to combat the gruelling course. It was a weekend that certainly sorted the men from the boys!   The race concluded with local resident Todd Kellett, earning a second consecutive win in the adult solo category. David Knight, who is a well-known enduro legend, took an impressive second place result with Martin Barr taking third. It was always going to be difficult to predict the outcome of the adrenaline fuelled adult solo race. Kellett, sped out of the gate to enjoy an incredible start aboard his St Blazey MX/SJ Hodder Husqvarna, which saw him earn the top podium finish in the RPG Racing 4×4 quad class. Close behind down the 1.5-mile straight, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jonny Walker was second with Ashley Greedy third.   By the halfway point, Kellett managed a smooth pit stop, while Barr took the opportunity to edge into second and Knight was then able to take up third. Greedy dropped back to sixth, while Irwin was forced to retire from the proceedings, due to suffering some technical issues. Kellett managed to maintain his consistency and speed throughout the enduring three-hour race, with the 20-year-old Somerset rider remaining untouchable approaching the final stages, allowing him to claim the well-earned victory. David Knight, who was the last rider to win Weston Beach Race back-to-back in 2010 and 2011. This year saw him take the runner-up spot and being the only rider to complete the race on the same number of laps as winning Kellet, after pushing his bike over the line. Buildbase Honda rider Martin Barr equalled his debut result from last year, finishing on the podium in third, after a spectacular battle between the amateurs and pros. Ross Parkinson was presented the HydroGarden Weston Beach Race Young Gun Award, as the highest placed 19-year-old with his 81st position. Of course, the weekend is full of the most exciting off-road riding you will see, but it doesn’t end there. It is an incredible event for all the family, which included the multiple Indoor and Outdoor World Trials Champion Dougie Lampkin taking to the WD-40 Trials Arena, to perform some death defying stunts.   Lampkin was joined by Toby Martin, who put on an awesome display of their trials riding abilities, working with some seriously large WD-40 cans to showcase their skills to the crowd.   It certainly was not an event to be missed!   Find Out More here: https://rhlactivities.com/events/rhl-beach-race-2017 Find Out More about our Specialist Motorbike range here: https://wd40.co.uk/wd-40-specialist-motorbike/

WD-40 RALLY-BRITISH CHAMPIONS!

After a successful shakedown test session on Friday, all of the elements were in place for an exciting showdown in the penultimate round of this years BTRDA Rally championship. With an impressive mid season run of form, Driver Stephen Petch & Co Driver Michael Wilkinson had strung consecutive back to back wins together at the Somerset Stages and the Plains Rally – mathematically, the title ‘could’ be decided this weekend! Race day and the pressure was clearly getting to Stephen, The pair had been seeded 1st for the event, which meant they were first through every stage. A few spins early on in the 1st stage cost the pair dearly putting them a long way down the rankings in 8th. There was definitely an easier way to clinch the title with the duo giving themselves a lot to do, But Stephen’s form has never been ‘out of the box’ fast and true to form the pair began setting faster & faster times. By the end of stage 2 the pair had leapfrogged back into 3rd – back in contention! In stage 4 they set the fastest time and claimed back some valuable time deficit from the early stages. At the end of the day they came home in 3rd enough points to clinch this years title with 1 round still remaining, testimony to the form the pair have displayed in 2017. CONGRATULATIONS WD-40 RALLY!! BRITISH CHAMPIONS!!  The guys will be back in the car at the Trackrod Rally in Yorkshire on the 30/09/2017! Find out more about WD-40 RALLY here https://wd40.co.uk/wd-40-athletes/wd-40-rally/

Danny Hart secures 6th overall in the 2017 World Cup Series

Last weekend the UCI Downhill world cup circus arrived at Val di sole for the final round of the 2017 series. With the championship, still to be decided, all eyes were on Minaar and Gwin, 2 juggernauts of the sport who had fought hard all year to take the crown, but, with both experiencing uncharacteristic misfortune throughout the 2017 season, things had not gone to plan.   A statement that resonated for most riders in the top 5 in 2017, with a variety of technical or equipment malfunctions, even freak weather events that have thrown the 2017 series in to championship chaos at several points throughout the year.  A lot of the weird and wonderful ‘racing moments’ we have witnessed in 2017 have not been caused by rider error this year.     That misfortune has not been selective with WD-40 Athlete Danny Hart (who became world champion at this venue in 2016) also succumbing to unusual conditions early in the 2017 season. At Val di Sole Danny was determined to continue his recent run of form that has taken him all the way back up to 4th overall in the standings as racing begun in the valley of the sun. Danny used his race craft to qualify in a steady 8th place nicely in the top 10 and proof that he was on the pace. On race day Danny was up on the first time split, but soon after had an un usual crash, Danny got straight back up and continued down the course, but the damage was done and with times so tight at the top Danny could unfortunately only achieve 32nd on the day. That result meant that Danny finished the World Cup series in 6th overall – an impressive achievement considering he was unable to take any real championship points from the first 2 rounds.   Next up is the world championships for the last race of the 2017 season in Cairns Australia. #WD-40 bike

Superb Performance from Team WD-40

It was a weekend of highs for Team WD-40 at Cadwell Park over the weekend, as the team looked to build on recent performances and end the season on a high. Tommy came into the weekend on the back of a disappointing performance at his home track of Thruxton last time out, but Cadwell Park holds great memories for the Wiltshire rider as this is where he claimed his first BSB race win in 2013! Going into Saturday’s qualifying session, Tommy looked in fine form finishing the third practice session in 11th place, Tommy then followed this up with a b rilliant qualifying session where he qualified in 12th position for the first race of the weekend with a time of 1:27.148. This really set up Tommy’s weekend as he then used this place on the grid to pick through the field and finish race one of the weekend in 9th place, only Tommy’s second top ten of the season! This was then quickly followed up by Tommy’s best result of the season in the second and final race of the weekend, finishing in 6th place and gaining 10 points in the overall standings! A great weekend for Tommy as he moves into 14th in the overall standings with one race of the regular season to go! Podium Finish for the Outlaw! It was also a great weekend for Mason Law, who continued his great form this season with a 3rd place finish in round 8 of the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship. This podium finish moved mason up to 4th in the overall standings with one round to go! A weekend of ups and downs for Delves It was a mixed weekend for Liam Delves as he had a brilliant qualifying session and qualified in 7th place, only for a technical fault on the grid meaning he had to start from the back of the grid in 38th place! Non-the less, Liam didn’t let that hold him back as he cut through the pack to finish in 12th place! An unbelievable race for the young rider!!   The Boys will be back on track at Silverstone on the 8th-10th of September for the last Round of the regular season!

Another Podium for Danny hart in Canada

This weekend saw the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup travel across the pond to Mont Sainte Anne in Canada for the first and only stage of this year’s World Cup held outside Europe. Danny came into the weekend full of confidence after some brilliant previous results including two 3rd place finishes in the last two consecutive World Cup races! With the course set up dry and quick, Danny was looking to repeat his heroics from last year’s World Cup where he won on this very same course! He quickly showed how comfortable he is on the Canadian mountain finishing 2nd in a quick timed practice on Thursday, completing the course only one second behind 1st placed Loic Bruni. With Danny’s confidence building from race to race this season, he was certainly in the mood for success this weekend and he brought that mood into qualifying on Saturday! Danny ripped down the dry and gnarly course to qualify in 4th place for Sunday’s race, just 3 seconds behind top qualifier and this year’s stand out rider, Aaron Gwin! Onto Race day and with the weather coming, it took the course from a fast, dry course into a wet, tricky and slippery course!! The early lead was taken by Australian Dean Lucas, who was in the Hot seat right up until the final riders came down the mountain! Danny, who has previously won in such terrible conditions, came out aggressively and was immediately taking time off the current leader! Danny was ahead all the way until the final sector, where he just came up short of the leader’s time! An unbelievable run and 3rd place from the World Champ given the conditions!! Fastest qualifier then smashed the course and the leaders time to take the win…. Again! Danny’s 3rd place finish moves him up to 4th in the overall World Cup Standing with one race to go in Val De Sole, Italy at the end of August!

A weekend of ups and downs for TEAM WD-40

It was a weekend of ups and downs for Team WD-40 who were back in action in Round 6 of the British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch over the weekend. The weekend started with a gamble by TEAM WD-40 and Tommy Bridewell with the guys deciding to run the bike with both options of tyre in use, using the soft option on the front and the hard option on the rear, Tommy was the only rider in the paddock to do this. In qualifying, it looked as though the gamble wouldn’t pay off as Tommy struggled and made it to 17th on the grid for the first race of the weekend. Although starting from further down the grid, Tommy fought back to finish in 14th place. With another points scoring race under his belt, Tommy looked to improve going into the 2nd race of the weekend. He proved that the gamble on the tyre selection gave him the edge he needed to break away from the middle of the grid with Tommy battling his way into 12th position. These results mean that Tommy has still scored points in every round of the championships and improvement looks to be on the horizon for the Wiltshire rider. Tommy sits in 14th position in the championships standings and will be looking to improve next time out at Thruxton. Frustration for Law   Mason Law’s weekend was definitely a tale of up’s and down’s, the weekend started well as Mason rode into 5th place on the grid in qualifying. It went downhill from there, as Mason crashed out in race one and pulled out in race two with a technical fault. After a disappointing weekend, Mason remains in 5th position in the overall standings. He will be hoping his luck improves next time out at Thruxton. TEAM WD-40 will be back in action at Thruxton on the 4th-6th August
