A microfibre cloth or sponge
Hosepipe or pressure washer
WD-40 Specialist® Motorbike Brake
WD-40 Specialist® Motorbike Cleaner
Densely bristled brush
The first step to any maintenance routine is cleaning. Find an open, flat area such as your garden or garage to set up your dirt bike. Using a pressure washer or hose, drench your bike. Next, using WD-40® Specialist Bike Cleaner, spray the formula liberally over your damp bike and allow a few minutes for the product to work. With a clean sponge or microfibre cloth, work away at any grime build up. Repeat this process until you are happy with the level of cleanliness, and finish with a final rinse.
Once you have dealt with the exterior of your dirt bike, you should pay some extra attention to the brake discs, as they are the first place to become built up with dirt and dust. Using WD-40® Specialist Motorbike Brake Cleaner and a microfibre cloth, work in a liberal amount of product, and wipe away to reveal clean, grime free discs. Always finish cleaning brakes with a spray of water to ensure no residue remains and test your brakes before making any journeys.
After cleaning your brake discs, you should also take a few minutes to maintain your dirt bike’s chain. Using WD-40® Specialist Motorbike Chain Cleaner, apply the product to the entire surface, rotating the chain to ensure it is fully covered. Work the product in with a microfibre cloth or use a densely bristled brush on more stubborn areas. Wipe away remaining residue with a clean microfibre cloth, and ensure you test your bike before setting out on any ride.
Now that you have successfully cleaned your dirt bike chain, you should re-lubricate it to ensure optimum performance. Using WD-40® Specialist Motorbike Chain Lube, spray the product liberally throughout the entire chain. Work the product in well using a microfibre cloth. As this product is quick drying and leaves no residue, there is no need to wipe it away!
Now that your dirt bike maintenance is complete, you should give all of the important parts of your dirt bike the once over. Check your tyre pressure, brake pads, engine and spoke tension to ensure everything is in working order. You should also check your dirt bike’s level of brake fluid, engine oil, and gear box oil.
