Fancy yourself a WD-40 hack, a discovery that will change your life? We’ve got you. We all know WD-40 is the go-to product for vehicle lubrication, but did you know that it can be used in the home too? Yes, you heard us right – in the home. If you’re anything like us, one of the biggest bugbears of household cleaning is getting our silverware looking like new again. So, are you ready to discover how to polish silver?
From fine silver plates, platters, and trays to everyday silverware, WD-40 Multi-Use Product works quickly to polish and protect thanks to its oil compounds that help to break up grime, leaving a thin layer of protection against tarnish.
Our product has a proprietary mix of mineral-spirit solvents, liquid petroleum, and mineral oils that displace water and seal out oxygen to restore and protect metal and non-metal items throughout the house. The dirty build-up is easily dissolved and released from the surface with a simple wipe of a cloth. To stop the endless googling on how to get your silver looking new, follow this step by step guide to polish silver today:
Tarnished silver rings, chain, necklace earrings, or plates and platters!
Clean cloth
Disposable gloves
A cover for your surface
Firstly, you should prep your work surface to ensure it is protected. Remove all clutter, and place down a protective covering.
Apply a small amount of WD-40 onto your tarnished silver. Simply insert the included red straw into the spray nozzle on the can and press to spray. The smart technology allows the straw to easily direct the stream into small or hard to reach areas. If you’re looking to cover large surface areas such as silver platters and plates, you can hold the nozzle six inches away from the object and “dust” in a fluid, side-to-side motion. For a wider range of spray, simply flip the Smart Straw down against the can, and the wide spray nozzle is still at your disposal should you need greater coverage
Use a clean cloth to rub the WD-40 Multi-Use Product into your silver, in small circular movements Continue rubbing until you have applied WD-40 all-around your silver object. Use the smart straw to get into any small nooks and crannies. If you need to, use a different part of your cloth as the cloth becomes blackened.
Next, use a new soft cloth to remove any residue that was left. Then, use a clean part of the cloth to buff the object to reveal a sparkling shine.
Finally, rinse the object with fresh, clean water to remove and final residue. Dry the object well and give it a final buff for a sparkling finish.
