WD-40® High Performance Silicone Lubricant
A microfibre cloth
Anti-bacterial product or cleaning wipe
An Allen wrench
To begin with, you should clean and disinfect your treadmill. We recommend doing this step after each use. This will reduce build up of grime over time.
Grab a microfibre cloth, moistened with anti-bacterial product (or anti-bacterial wipes). Wipe down your entire machine, focussing on areas that come into direct contact with your body. Try to remove all dust from the treadmill too. Be sure not to miss small crevices on the face of the machine.
You should try to check your treadmill at regular intervals during the year, depending on how much use it gets. To ensure your safety whilst using the machine, check the tightness of all screws, and tighten them if necessary using an allen wrench. You should also check that the treadmill belt is aligned properly, and that all of the electrical wires and ports are not showing signs of damage. If you notice any of these signs, you should consult the manufacturer of your machine and discontinue use immediately.
You should lubricate the belt of your treadmill every three months (dependant on the amount of use it sees). To do this, check with your manufacturers manual and follow the instructions on how to relax the belt on your model. Once this is relaxed, you can lift the belt strip, and apply a light spray of WD-40® High Performance Silicone Lubricant to the underside surface.
Next, re-tighten the belt, and allow the treadmill to run on a low speed, so the product is distributed throughout the whole surface. Ensure you do not over or under tighten the belt, as this can lead to dangerous accidents. Once this is done, wipe away any excess product that may be apparent, and double check the belt is secure before use.
