WD-40® Multi-Use Product can help loosen and remove light surface rust by penetrating between the metal and the corrosion. It is particularly effective when used alongside mechanical action, such as brushing. To use, apply the product to the affected area and allow it to penetrate for a few minutes. Use a wire brush or abrasive pad to remove the loosened rust, and wipe away any residue. Repeat if necessary.
