Your car’s wing mirrors are an extremely important feature on your car. They help to ensure both your safety and the safety of other road users around you. Therefore, it’s essential to maintain your car wing mirrors by keeping them clean and in good working order. Ensuring they perform as expected and required. However, this task can be a little tricky sometimes. This is because the mirrors themselves are made from highly sensitive glass and need to be treated very gently!
So, to help make your life easier, WD-40® has decided to lay it out, step-by-step. Continue reading to learn how to maintain car wing mirrors, so you are always ready to hit the road!
Microfibre cloths
Sponge
Warm soapy water
Hose
We all wash our cars every now and then, but can you honestly say you pay close attention when cleaning the wing mirrors? If not, the best thing you can do to keep your wing mirrors well-maintained is to give them a good cleaning. To do this, just use some warm soapy water and a sponge. Gently wash the wing mirrors in a circular motion. Once they are suitably lathered, rinse off the suds with your garden hose, on a low setting. Then either gently dry your wing mirrors with a clean, dry microfibre cloth or allow them to air dry fully. Make sure you remove any dirt, dust and grime to avoid future damage and corrosion!
No matter how thorough your washing was, there are bound to be fingerprints left on the glass or maybe even tough stains that won’t budge. Additionally, dried insects can often get caught in the wing mirror casing and need to be removed. The best way to remove any fingerprints or stains is to take some WD-40® Multi-Use Product Flexible Straw as it can help remove anything that didn’t budge from the soapy water. As a result of WD-40®’s unique formula, it is great for removing fingerprints, grease, grime, and dead insects from the mirror and the outer casing.
Simply spray the product directly onto the area that needs to an extra bit of TLC, wait a few moments, and then wipe the product off with a clean microfibre cloth. Repeat this process as needed until you are happy with the desired results. You may also want to use the bendable flexible straw to help reach smaller nooks and crannies on your wing mirrors!
Additionally, the WD-40® Multi-Use Product Flexible Straw is perfect for lubricating the hinged mechanisms on your car wing mirrors. Whether your wing mirrors fold in automatically when you lock the car or fold in manually, it’s a good idea to regularly lubricate the hinges with a touch of WD-40®, so they can move effectively with no stiffness or squeaking. This will help protect any metal components from the harsh outside elements and reduce the chances of damage from corrosion or rust formation.
Many car wing mirrors now have a plastic outer casing; however, don’t be fooled as metal parts of the wing mirror still remain vulnerable. This is especially the case if your car still has metal casing on your wing mirrors. Luckily, there is an easy way to protect your wing mirrors from forming rust, with just a touch of WD-40®! To protect these parts of your car’s wing mirrors take some WD-40 Specialist® White Lithium Grease and apply it directly to any metal components, to lubricate and protect them. The unique formula provides great protection for heavy-duty, metal-to-metal applications. It can be used outdoors regardless of weather and temperature, helping you to maintain your car wing mirrors, especially during wet weather conditions. What’s more, the thick water-resistant formula won’t drip or run, making it a must-have cleaning product for your car!
