At WD-40 Company, we are committed to building an enduring business for the future. As outlined in our latest ESG Report, our environmental impact strategy focuses on areas where we believe we can reduce our environmental impact. We strive to build an enduring business in a manner which ensures a balance between economic growth, environmental impact, and social well-being.
Our journey is ongoing—explore how we’re turning purpose into progress.
Doing the right thing has always guided us. We are committed to growth through responsible environmental practices and to minimising the environmental impact of our global operations. We aspire to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 2050, supported by clear targets, innovative product development, and a robust supply chain sustainability strategy. In doing so, we are helping to shape a future that is more inclusive, resilient, and responsible.
Minimising our environmental impact is integral to our global strategy, not a separate initiative. It influences how we innovate, operate and make decisions across the organisation. Oversight is provided by a senior leadership via our Sustainability Committee, ensuring environmental considerations remain embedded at the heart of our business.
Our dedicated environmental programmes team works closely with our innovation and R&D teams to implement this strategy. Together, they advance progress through research, innovation and continuous improvement, helping us deliver meaningful and measurable impact.
By 2030, we aim to reduce absolute Green House Gas emissions across Scope 1, 2, and 3, targeting a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from our global operations and a 10–20% reduction in Scope 3 emissions. Achieving these targets requires full engagement of key suppliers, lowering the GHG intensity of products and key ingredients through innovation, and rethinking packaging for circularity. We aspire to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Our commitments, targets, and progress are communicated in our publicly available ESG Report.
We prioritize end user safety in the development of every product we create. We follow strict internal mandatories that align our product development with the safety of our end users without compromising product effectiveness. Please see the WD-40 Company Chemical and Product Safety Policy which outlines our commitment to health, safety, and compliance.
Through our global Repair Challenge, we encourage individuals to contribute to their own carbon handprint through creative repair or repurpose, extending the life of everyday items, or giving them a new life, promoting a culture of maintenance over disposal, and supporting waste reduction. We support a circular economy by pursuing closed-loop solutions and continuously assessing our packaging. Our focus is to reduce waste by designing for recyclability, promoting recycling, and partnering with suppliers and stakeholders to increase the use of recycled materials in our products.
We apply our sustainability lens to every product. Grounded in our 3R Framework (Refuse, Reduce, Recycle), the lens helps us evaluate product chemistry (sustainable chemistry guide), product packaging (packaging circularity assessment), and the overall product impact from material creation through to disposal (carbon emissions tool). The lens informs all innovation and the evolution of our existing products—ensuring sustainability is embedded without compromising product effectiveness or performance.
We are responsible for ensuring our products are manufactured and delivered in accordance with our ethical and professional standards. Our Responsible Sourcing Policy outlines expectations for our suppliers. We are also increasing the use of renewable energy across our offices and facilities and partnering with key suppliers to set GHG emissions targets and collaborate on initiatives to reduce emissions across the value chain.
