Caravan Cleaning Brush – Telescopic broom
Dishwashing liquid
Hosepipe
Sponge
Water
To begin your motorhome maintenance, you should thoroughly clean the exterior surfaces. Whilst this should be done every few months, you should pay extra attention to the exterior surfaces before and after wintering, and after a long journey. Check all surfaces for signs of damage, rusting and dents – if you catch them early, they’re easier to fix!
To begin the clean, connect your telescopic broom to a hosepipe (or simply use a sponge if you don’t have access to one) and begin to scrub all surfaces with a mixture of warm water and soap. In order to clean a caravan roof it really is important to use a telescopic brush as this is the best way to clean a caravan roof easily. Ensure you reach all areas, including the windows, side mirrors and roof.
Once you are happy all of the grime has been removed, allow the surfaces to dry, or use a microfibre cloth to soak up the remaining water.
Once you have successfully cleaned the exterior, you should give your wheel rims some love. To Clean the motorhome wheel rims you will want to use some good old WD-40®! Using WD-40® Multi-Use product, you will first want to shake the can well, then spray each wheel cap liberally and work in the product with a clean microfibre cloth. Wipe away the excess product and revel sparkling wheel caps! You can also use this method on any other chrome fixings on your motorhome, including door handles and wing mirrors.
An important piece of caravan maintenance is checking the joints for any sealing issues. After each long journey – and especially after wintering – you should check all of the joints and seals on your motorhome for wear and tear. Whilst checking these areas, you should carry out some light maintenance to ensure they perform well and prolong their lifespan. Grab some WD-40® High Performance White Lithium Grease and spray the entire seal or joint. Using a microfibre cloth, work the product in, and wipe away any excess. This will ensure the seals are well lubricated, to prevent squeaking, cracks and frost protection.
After a long drive, electrical components in your motorhome can become grimy with built up dust and dirt. WD-40® Multi-Use Product is not conductive, so it can therefore be used on electrical components safely.
After turning off your engine and allowing it to cool sufficiently, grab some trusty WD-40® Multi-Use Product and spray directly onto the affected areas. Use a soft microfiber cloth to gently buff away any remaining grime and wipe away any remaining product. This process will also protect your components from condensation damage, due to WD-40® being a water repellant.
To finish your caravan maintenance and cleaning, you should give the interior a deep and thorough clean. After you have cleaned all areas, you should lubricate all hinges and rails in your motorhome. Using WD-40® Multi-Use Product, spray all door hinges and seat rails (the rails that move your chairs forwards and backwards) and move the mechanisms forwards and backwards to allow the product to penetrate all areas. Once you are happy, wipe away any excess. This step will help to eliminate squeakiness, and also ensure all moving parts in your motorhome are smooth and efficient.
