You have washed, polished, and checked your bike for flat tyres, but what’s the next step in bike maintenance? Do you know how to clean your bicycle’s gears and brakes? When you have dirt stuck, which grinds together and ultimately reduces the life and efficiency of your brakes, simply washing them won’t get the job done! but how do you clean disc brake rotors?
If you want quiet, consistent, and powerful stopping, you need to ensure that you are maintaining your brakes regularly by keeping them clean and mud-free. A key indicator that your bicycle is crying out for some much-needed TLC due to unwanted oil, dirt or debris, is if your brake discs are making howling noises, creating stains on the rotors or there is a reduction in the power of your brake performance. So, how do you clean your bike’s brakes? Well, you’re in luck because WD-40 has formulated the perfect solution that can dissolve the grime and dirt stuck in your brakes for easy removal. Smart, right?

The fast-acting formula leaves no residue and can extend the life of your bicycle components when used frequently. You can use it on chains, cassettes sprockets, derailleurs, and cog sets. Once applied, the liquid starts to soften and solubilise grease and oil to lift it from the brake disc rotor easily.
First, shake the can of WD-40 BIKE Degreaser thoroughly.
Apply WD-40 BIKE Degreaser liberally onto both sides of the brake disc rotor whilst holding the can 15-30cm away.
Allow the formula remain in contact for a few minutes.
To finish, spray with clean water from a hose.
